Sunbeam 1000hp update
The Sunbeam 1000hp restoration fund has reached the £50,000 milestone. Restoration is well underway, with the vehicle stripped down and work having begun on the two massive 22.5 litre engines. The vehicle has not run since before WWII, and is being painstakingly rebuilt by the National Motor Museum engineers.
On 27th January, Castrol Classic Oils were invited to a special talk about the restoration. The Museum’s Manager and Chief Engineer Doug Hill, and Senior Engineer Ian Stanfield, spoke to the audience about the ongoing efforts to restore the car. They were joined with a special guest appearance from land speed record holder Richard Noble.
Visitors to Beaulieu are now able to see the exposed chassis in the National Motor Museum, as work continues on the engine builds. The Museum is always well worth a visit, but for those interested in land speed history now is a great time to go. To whet your appetite we’ve taken a short walkaround video that gives a great impression of the scale of the vehicle and it’s mechanicals, as well as the scale of the task ahead for the restoration team:
